About Dunamis Fellowship Canada

What we believe

Dunamis Fellowship Canada’s foundation of faith is articulated in the great creeds of the Christian Church universal especially the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed.

Out of our historic and theological roots in the Reformed tradition and our special calling to work for the extending of the kingdom of God we affirm the following:

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church

"who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in the heavens and on the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things are held together. 18 He is the head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For all the fullness was pleased to dwell in him; 20 and through him to reconcile all things to himself, by him, whether things on the earth, or things in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of his cross." Colossians 1:15-20

We are Committed to Achieving the "Great Commission"

"18 Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

We are Grounded Upon and are Guided by the Bible as the Word of God

We believe "The holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the word of God, the only rule for faith and obedience." (THE LARGER CATECHISM Q and A Number 3; II Timothy 3:16; Heb. 4:12-14)

This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of humankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe.

For purposes of DFC’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Board of Directors is DFC’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application

We Believe that Jesus Christ has Sent the Holy Spirit in Order to Accomplish Four Basic Works for the Glory of God:

  1. That men and women may be born into the Kingdom God. John 1:12-13, 3:1-8.
  2. That those born into the Kingdom are being sanctified by the Holy Spirit dwelling within: their character being transformed to reflect the image of Jesus Christ. II Cor. 3:17-18, Galatians 5:22-23, Romans 12:1-2
  3. That Christians may receive power and spiritual gifts to be a witness to Jesus and do the works of Jesus in the world. Acts 1:8. Luke 24:45, I Corinthians 12:4-11, John 14:12-13.
  4. That the people of God may be brought into fellowship (Koinonia) with one another and with the Father Son and Holy Spirit. I John 1:1-4, Ephesians 2:19-22, Acts 2:41-47

Affirmations Concerning Contemporary Challenges to Biblical Orthodox Christian Faith

Statement affirming that Jesus Christ is the only way of Salvation

We affirm that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life and the only way to God the Father. We affirm that there is no other name given under heaven by which humanity must be saved. We stand in opposition to any creed, ideology, practice or rituals that promote any other way to God the Father and to salvation other than in Jesus Christ alone.

We are committed to the work of evangelism and mission that is led and empowered by the Holy Spirit, that brings the good news to all near and far that Jesus Christ is the only way of Salvation. Our commitment is that all people, everywhere will hear the word God and may choose life in Jesus Christ.

For those who die without having heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ or have heard and rejected this way of life, we affirm that they are in the hands of a loving God who knows the depths of the human heart. We recognize that while Christians over the ages have had different opinions over the eternal fate of such people, we affirm that this is in the hands of God the Father and that whatever the outcome, it will be only through the Father’s means of Jesus Christ. If judgment it will be through Christ, if life, forgiveness and redemption also through Christ. As for us, our task is to proclaim Jesus Christ to the world as the only way of Salvation.

Statement on the sanctity of human life

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, from conception through natural death. (Ps 139)

We resist as not according to the biblical revelation of the sanctity of human life all ideologies movements and practices that would violate the sanctity of life. We as a ministry and as individuals are committed to the reality that Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life and that his grace, love and forgiveness extends to all those who have in any way failed to live up to the biblical ideal.

Statement on marriage

We affirm that God created human beings as male and female and that together they reflect the image of God. We affirm the biblical definition that Christian marriage is between one man and one woman. We reject all other definitions of Christian marriage as inconsistent with God’s revealed plans for humanity. We affirm also that we live in a fallen world and we take the reality of sin seriously. However, by the grace of God the Father, the love of Jesus Christ and by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit we are more and more reflecting the image of Jesus Christ, a process that will only be completed when we meet Jesus face to face. We stand as witnesses to Jesus Christ and as a ministry and as individuals offer Christian fellowship, the love of God, forgiveness, and the transforming healing power of the Holy Spirit to all who have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Leadership and participation at DFC Events

While everyone is welcome to participate at DFC events, those in leadership in DFC and at our events (whether staff or volunteer) agree to accept and abide by:

  1. our Code of Conduct based on the Ten Tenets of the Dunamis Fellowship International, and
  2. our Statement of Faith, and
  3. these affirmations concerning the three issues facing the Church today (i.e. Jesus Christ as the only way of Salvation; sanctity of human life; and Christian marriage).

Current Statement as adopted by the Board of Directors, January 2016

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit

We use the metaphor of dancing with the Holy Spirit to describe the dynamic of our listening, responding and steping out in obedience to follow God on the dance floor of love to advance his Kingdom.  Our events give opportunity to be grounded in solid biblical teaching on the person and work of the Holy Spirit, and to cultivate practice in listening and responding to the Holy Spirit.

How does DFC help equip the Church in Canada?

Our vision statement defines our focus on four main areas of ministry:

  • Prayer    Prayer is foundational.  We teach people to pray, we bathe our events in Intercessory prayer, and we practice listening prayer as leadership teams and in our approach to evangelism.  The third Dunamis Project (in the series of six), The Power of Prayer, focuses particularly on prayer.  We teach on prayer, give opportunity to practice prayer and make it the foundation for DFC ministry.  Our Prayer Mobilizer, Martin Boardman, offers equipping, networking and prayer events, within and beyond Canada, connecting intercessors internationally.
  • Growing the Church provides practical teaching on cooperating with the Holy Spirit in a congregational context.
  • Leadership Development particularly through our Dunamis Projects, Growing the Church conferences and on-line, provides in-depth, experiential learning on how to cooperate with the Holy Spirit to advance Jesus' Kingdom.
  • Mission Outreach to deploy people for evangelism and teaching.

Our teachers are faculty of the Dunamis Institute.
